It is late Tuesday morning on June 12th…..and I was finally feeling brave enough to watch C-SPAN again. It has taken me awhile to get to this place; I have been so disappointed at what the Republican congresses did not accomplish from 1995-2006! Nearly ten years ago I could listen to C-SPAN for hours, and believed that we would see passage of the Flat Tax and reform to Social Security. Well, hold on folks…something so very life changing has happened today…..at 10:46 A.M. the rules were suspended and on a voice vote the House passed H.R. 2358 to require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint and issue coins in commemoration of Native Americans and the important contributions made by Indian tribes and individual Native Americans to the development of the United States and the history of the United States, and for other purposes. Gee….what about the immediate need for Immigration Reform? What about the FY 2008 Appropriations Bills?? The Constitution gives Congress the power of the purse! Come on Congress….quit spending so much time and effort on staging political theatre like the appearance of Valerie Plame on the Hill and a no-confidence vote on AG Gonzales (you are not the Parliament, after all) AND PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE….get to the REAL WORK.
